Lowestoft
Dog Agility Display Team 60th Anniversary!
Training
the dogs of Lowestoft for decades - our Club history
Happy Paws origins lead all the way back to 1961 and the formation of the "Lowestoft Friendly Alsatian Club". Back then classes were held at the rear of "The Great Eastern Hotel" on Denmark Road. Training classes back then consisted of obedience and working trials held on a Monday evening and Sunday morning. In the 1960's demonstrations were given at local fetes and were based on police dog work and jumps, the seeds of what would become our very own Lowestoft Dog Agility Display Team were being sown even back then!
In the late 1970's / early 1980's the Club name changes again to "The Lowestoft Alsatian and Dog Training Society" to allow the Club to train other dog breeds. It was then that the Club managed to acquire use of Mutford Village Hall where the Club enjoyed many happy years.
Most recently, as we entered the 2010's and the Clubs popularity continued to grow the decision was taken to move to a larger premises and to the Broads Equestrian Centre where we are now. With the breed name Alsatian no longer being recognised it was also decided to change the name of the Club to something more appropriate and 'of the time' and so the name Happy Paws was created.
The names, the venues and the personnel may have changed down the years but our core values of providing fun, kind and effective training have always remained the same and we have always been affiliated to The Kennel Club, as a registered society, as we are today.
There's so much of the Club's history that we cant include it all here, if you'd like to know more you can read this extract from our Club newsletter, written by Agility Co-coordinator Mark Willeard with contributions from former Club President and Trainer Eva Carter - HERE
